An all-around enjoyable, uplifting movie. Jan 07, 2009 I rented this on a whim after seeing Stephen Dillane--whose work I've taken an interest in since his fantastic portrayal of Thomas Jefferson in the HBO miniseries "John Adams"--on the cover. I wasn't sure whether I'd really enjoy it or not, since I've never been much of a golf fan, but I was very pleasantly surprised. The story and characters are engaging and the movie has the usual Disney combination of humor and drama. Dillane's performance as Harry Vardon was great, but Shia LeBeouf also shined in his role as Francis Ouimet. You don't need to be a golf fan to enjoy this movie. I actually liked it so much, I'm planning on buying it now.
best "little known movie" I've ever seen Jan 06, 2009 I actually saw this movie on an international flight and it was one of the best movies I have ever enjoyed. I'm not a golf fan, but the story is wonderful whether you like golf or not. I purchased it for my son-in-law who is a "golf fan" and I feel it would make a great gift for a wide range of people.

Oh, soooo bad.... Jan 04, 2009 So bad I thought for sure that Ron Howard directed it. If you cut out all of the sickening scenes of "eyes staring into eyes," the length of this movie would have been cut in half... a good start to the editing of this gooey, boring, seamingly unending film. It should have been titled "The Longest Film Ever Played." If only it had had a competent director, it could have been an interesting, worthwhile achievement. It never seizes to amaze me how many people actually like this mush!
The Greatest Game ever Dec 24, 2008 This movie is one of the best I've ever seen. It's not only true, but it's inspiring and just darned nice, clean, fun.
great movie Dec 18, 2008 We thought this was a great movie. We are golfers, and it was fun to see how the game has progressed over the years. The commentary and live interviews from the early years in golf were really interesting.
